Ohuabunwa wins rescheduled Abia North PDP senatorial ticket

The immediate past Senator who represented Abia North in the eight senate, Mao Ohuabunwa has been declared winner of the rescheduled Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries held Wednesday at Ohafia.

Mao Ohuabunwa who was a former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament polled a total of 135 votes to defeat his closest rival and member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal consituency, Hon. Uko Nkole, who secured only 29 votes.

The election which was inclusive Tuesday, also had Hon. Ernest Mba Ajah secure 10 votes while Dr Igwe Orji had no vote.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee for Abia North and the Returning Officer, Chief Silas Okafor, said that though the election was not without some hitches as one of the aspirants “who noticed that he was losing started molesting and harassing members of the committee”, said the election was free and fair.

According to him, “During the counting, he was losing and he and his supporters tried to stop the exercise, but my team resisted them and went ahead to successfully conclude the election and “Sen. MAO Ohuabunwa was declared winner”.

Speaking afterwards, Sen. Ohuabunwa commended his fellow contestants and urged them to support him as members of one family, promising to carry everyone along and not to disappoint them.
