The new Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate, Okey Ahiwe, Monday before party stakeholders, presented a former Student Union leader, Jasper Uche as his running mate.
This therefore dashed the hope of the running mate of the late Prof. Uche Ikonne, Hon. Okey Igwe of becoming the number two citizen in the state few weeks away from now.
Jasper Uche is also from Umunneochi LGA.
Earlier before this choice, a faithful was asked what the position of Ikonne’s running mate, Okey Igwe will be, he said, “I believe that in good faith and judgment, acting with a conscience, nurtured by truth, that the running mate of prof. Eleazar Ikonne has not committed any crime against the party”.
The faithful who spoke under anonymity, further stated on Igwe, “He has not also in anyway, committed any crime against our government and he has shown enough capacity within this period.
“As a person and individual, he has also shown a lot of humility and has also displayed the qualities of readiness to be a good team player.
“With all these put in place, I will not be surprised if the party decides to pair him up with any person who emerges after the party primary.
“But I will rather be surprised if the party decides otherwise”.
However while presenting Jasper Uche before state party stakeholders, the state PDP Chairman, Alwell Asiforo Okere explained that the Electoral Act requires the gubernatorial candidate to nominate his deputy.
In his address to the stakeholders, the new deputy governorship candidate, Jasper Uche thanked his principal and the governorship candidate, Okey Ahiwe and the stakeholders for reposing a great confidence on him, assuring he will not let them down.
