Nigerians have been advised to pay attention to issues that concern youths and to mentor them as leaders of tomorrow.
This advice came Wednesday from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP Abia Central Senatorial candidate, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) as Abia State joined others in the country to celebrate 2022 International Youth Day in Umuahia, describing youths as the “nexus between the old and the young” in the country.
Akobundu who was a former National Organizing Secretary of PDP noted that “there is an interface between the young and the old”, adding “we need the wisdom of the old and the dynamism of the new”.
Akobundu who described Abia youths as among the most peaceful in the country and who have brought peace to Abia homes, assured, “we will continue to mentor them to grow to their desires and be able to give back to the society”.
He urged all to help make the youth focal point and their matters, cardinal point, advising, “In politics, if you want to change the system, you have to pay attention to the youths as leaders of tomorrow. There is the need to carry them along”.
Fielding questions from newsmen later, Col. Akobundu said that there is going to be a paradigm shift in terms of quality legislation when he gets into the Red Chamber where he will lobby and use his interpersonal relationship to attract the best for the people of his constituency.
Earlier in his speech at the event with the theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity – Creating A World For All Ages”, the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Charles Esonu said the purpose of the event was to prepare the youths for future, while the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Barr. Eze Chikamnayo said the youths form the fulcrum of the developmental efforts of his administration and therefore youth friendly.
The event witnessed motivational speech by the legendary actress, Nkeiru Sylvanus who urged the youths to take their destiny in their hands and take positive steps in actualizing their dreams.
