The Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okparar University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU Prof. Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe has alerted the public and dissociated himself from a fake Facebook account that is being used to impersonate him with the motive of defrauding unsuspecting persons.
In a disclaimer issued by the University Public Relations Officer, PRO Adanma Odefa and titled: “Disclaimer on fake facebook account impersonating MOUAU Vice-Chancellor”, the university said “The Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU Prof. Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe by this notice dissociates himself from a fake Facebook account that is being used to impersonate him with the motive of defrauding unsuspecting persons.
“The general public is hereby notified that Prof. Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe will never provide a bank account number to any person for any sort of payment, or engage in any transaction via Facebook or any other social media platform.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to be properly guided to avoid falling victim to the desperate online fraudsters”.
In an interview with this reporter, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe revealed “They couldn’t get into my facebook account but created a messenger account in my name and I don’t have any messenger account. I have facebook account but I know how I operate it.
“They created a messenger account and began to deceive people (with it). However, the people knowing my standpoint in life have not been able to fall to their game and antics and would ask me, ‘are you really the person doing this?’”
Asked what he would like the government or facebook to do, he said “I think that if there is job and people are busy, they wouldn’t want to use the good side of their brain to do evil.
“So, let people be engaged at whatever level they attain in life so that they can be positively productive to the good of the country”.
