The Senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District, Osita Izunaso has been asked to drop his senate leadership ambition as he is unfit to lead the 10th Senate.

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Owerri, an Imo Catholic cleric, Rev Fr. Israel Ozioma berated Senator Osita Izunaso over his past which “stinks”, and urged senators-elect to reject him.

Fr. Ozioma noted that electing Izunaso into any office would be a mockery of the 10th Senate, adding that the senator “dubiously” wrote results in Imo West Senatorial District and that he does not have the mandate of the people.

According to the Priest, “The 109 senators-elect should reject Senator Osita Izunaso or they will regret their actions if the fail to do so. He cannot be trusted with responsibility. He is an unstable, cunning man. Nigerians must know that Izunaso wrote the Imo West election result. Nobody voted for him.

“I am appealing to the remaining 108 senators-elect to reject Senator Osita Izunaso in totality. He only wants to occupy the office of the Senate President to bring embarrassment to Imo State as well as to defend the activities of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) owned by his godfather, Emeka Offor.”

The cleric frowned at the endorsement of some candidates by the ruling All Progressives Congress and questioned the parameter used in endorsing candidates when there has not been any serious debate on national issues facing the country.

“Personally, I feel it is wrong for the ruling party to endorse a particular candidate for the office of the Senate President without allowing the senators-elect to decide on who they want as their leader. The legislature should be totally independent just like the judiciary and executive”, the cleric advised.
