The All Progressive’s Congress, APC Abia State chapter is in a last minute split over alleged suspension of the senator representing Abia North by his Igbere ward.
In a letter allegedly signed by the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Paul Nwabuisi, Esq, State Secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah and the State Chairman, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, the party said “You are hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, the same leadership has through its spokesperson dismissed the reports that it has suspended its Abia North Senatorial Candidate and Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu.
Denying the reported suspension, the Party’s Spokesperson, Okey Ezeala described the reports as the handiwork of the People’s Democratic Party.
According to a terse statement signed by Ezeala the party distanced itself from the report stating that there is no iota of truth in it.
Ezeala said that the malicious write up is occasioned by the PDP’s fright to accept tomorrow’s imminent defeat. According to the party, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains the candidate of our great party as both the party and his constituents are satisfied with his performance.
On the allegation of anti-party activities and other offenses, the party labeled the accusations as entirely false, stating that Orji Kalu has always remained a committed member of the party and its progress.
The party’s Spokesperson added that there is no record of Orji Kalu campaigning against any of its candidate nor has the Senate Chief Whip campaigned for any other political candidate besides those of the APC.
The party therefore urged its party faithfuls and the general public to disregard the report and head to their various polling units to cast their votes for its candidates.
Few hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, there was a report of purported suspension of the Senate Chief Whip, Kalu over Anti-party Activities
According to the report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had suspended the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over alleged anti-party activities and other offences, stating that the suspension was with immediate effect.
In that report, Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial district was accused of being at loggerheads with the leadership and members of Abia APC over the allegations that the former Abia governor has been undermining and sabotaging his own party.
In the alleged letter addressed to Kanu dated February 21, 2023, the party said that Kalu was suspended on the grounds of “acts of disobedience and gross anti-party activities”, adding that he has remained unrepentant and “not being remorseful despite several warnings”.
The party leadership explained that Kalu’s suspension was as “a result of thorough investigations and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee set up by the Igbere Ward A in Bende Local Government of Abia State.
It alleged that the Abia APC leadership stated that Kalu’s suspension was in consonance with Article 21B(i-v) of the APC Constitution, which he violated.
The Abia APC leadership, according to the report said that “having found evidence substantial enough” it became unavoidable to suspend Kalu from the party in order to protect the integrity of the party.
