The People’s Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming 2023 general election in Abia State, Prof. Eleazar Uche Ikonne says he will institute a participatory government if he wins.
Speaking Friday, on the occasion of the opening of the Work Station of his Uchendiabia Campaign Organization, Prof. Ikonne said he will ensure equitable development across the zones in the state, adding “every Abian is a member of the government. We are coming. You will feel the impact of our government”.
He assured, “there will be even development of Abia State according to area’s comparative advantage”.
Ikonne said “We have taken the matter of Uchendiabia beyond Abia”, stating that his administration will open the eyes of Abians in diaspora to replicate much of what they see in the foreign lands.
“We can partner with them. When they go outside and see development, they will bring such into Abia for global trust.
“I will attract financial powers and partner with them, no matter their ethnic inclinations”.
His administration, Prof. Ikonne said “want to prove strong leadership you can invest in and get the returns tomorrow”.
He said the Work Station will provide free wifi to promote intellectualism and help in training the youths.
“We will partner with leadership training schools nationally and internationally. The Work Station has the gadgets to train people but for environmental exposure, will send them outside the country for few months training to raise leaders of tomorrow of international standard”.
He disclosed that the first batch of 32 trainers has been concluded in research orientation and described the Work Station as “a smart one”.
In his reaction, the former National Organizing Secretary of PDP and now Abia Central Senatorial candidate, Rtd Col Austin Akobundu said that the occasion “is a sign post of what incoming administration will be for effective governance and shows that the administration will be intellectual-driven”.
Others who spoke, including MAO Ohuabunwa and Nnenna Obewu Onwuka noted that PDP will be in all levels of governance in Abia and will recapture the presidency in 2023.
In his speech, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu said the party is not folding its arms in reconciling aggrieved members.
Represented by the Secretary to the States Government, Barr Chris Ezem, Ikpeazu said no other candidate is prepared to win as a governor in Nigeria than Ikonne, disclosing that the strenght of their victory lies at the polling units and the ward.
