The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA Abia State Branch Friday, suspended their on-going industrial action they embarked upon over their kidnapped colleague, Prof Uwadinachi Iweha.

This resolutions came after an Emergency General Meeting of the State Officers Committee, SOC to review the efforts put in by the Abia State Government and Security agencies geared towards rescuing Prof Uwadinachi Iweha.

Prof. Iweha was kidnapped on the 6th of June and on Monday, 14th June, the doctors embarked on strike over the matter.

According to the doctors, “After x-raying the entire situation as presented by the Government and Security agencies”, the SOC resolved “that work starts in all private and public health facilities in Abia State by 10:00 am on Friday, 17th day of June 2022”.

The situation, they said will be further reviewed in the next 72 hours during the Ordinary General Meeting of NMA Abia State on the 19th June.

The NMA Abia State in a statement after the meeting and signed by Dr Chimezie G Okwuonu (Chairman), Dr Robinson U. Ugwuanyi (Secretary) and Dr Erondu Nnamdi (Publicity Secretary) however warned that they may be forced to resume the suspended strike action “if no further palpable progress is made in the next 72hours”.
