The National President, National Council of Women Society, NCWS Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau Wednesday, commissioned the Abia State secretariate of the society.
Speaking during the occasion in Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA, Hajiya Lau described the structure as an “edifice” that cannot be found in other state’s NCWS and called on other states chapters to emulate the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem described the building as “a signature project” and assured that his government would continue to support the council.
He advised them to use the structure for the good of women in the state.
In her speech, the wife of the state governor, Nkechi Ikpeazu the structure “marks a turning point in the history of NCWS in Abia” and called for help from Umuahia South council authorities to help safeguard the building.
Earlier, the state President of NCWS, Lady Eunice Nwigwe took them less than a year to complete following acute office space challenge which affected them in terms of coordination.
She attributed the project to the vision, support and encouragement of the wife of the state governor.
Umuahia South stakeholders, Including the member representing them in the state House of Assembly, Jerry Uzosike, SSG, Chris Ezem, Umuahia South LGA a chairman, Humphrey Chukwudi Benson, a former House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia, Udo Ibeji and representive of Umuahia South women, Madam Cordelia Mbagwu thanked the wife of the governor and the NCWS for sighting the project in the area and assured of securing it.
Others who spoke, including the PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne represented by his running mate, Hon. Okey Igwe, his wife, Uzoamaka Ikonne and the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Rose Urenta Nnanta expressed their excitement over the structure, assuring that the state government will continue to encourage more projects in the state.
