The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+),NPM,NEAPS,fdc,CFR has promoted the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, CSP Geoffrey Ogbonna and six others over hardwork.
The IGP also commended the state command of the Nigeria police for its diligence during the the last general elections in the state, where no police officers were found wanting in the course of their electioneering job in the state.
Those promoted include three Inspectors promoted to Assistant Supreintendent of Police, ASP, three promoted from Supreintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Supreintendent of Police, (CSP) and one promoted from the rank of Chief Supreintendent of Police, (CSP) to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP).
In his speech after decorating the newly promoted officers, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala said, “the IGP in his magnanimity, has approved promotion for our officers and men, and has commended the efforts of the state command”, stating that after each election, the command had submitted reports to the IGP and was commended.
According to him, “proper planning helped us to prevent poor performance. We are very proud of all of us”
He described the 2023 elections as “peaceful and credible”, assuring that the command will continue to do more.
The CP advised the newly promoted that much is now expected of them, stating, “promotion has been given as moral booster. Put in more efforts and redouble your efforts to ensure the protection of the citizenry. You have your family and job integrity to protect”.
In his speech on behalf of other newly promoted officers, ACP Kingsley Woke who was before then CSP and the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ubakala Police Division in Umuahia South LGA, thanked the IGP, Abia CP and officers and men of the state command for the promotions, assuring that with the help of God, they will be alive to their responsibilities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, CSP Geoffrey Ogbonna, had before now as a Supreintendent of Police, SP managed the image of the police force over the years to the admiration of many Commissioners of Police in the state.
