As the leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains incarcerated in the DSS cell in Abuja, the problem escalating the issue is the involvement of the military.
According to the Special Counsel to Kanu, Barr Aloy Ejimakor, the problem is not the separatist agitation, IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu but misguided militarist response to it.
In a press release made available to Punch in Umuahia Friday evening, Barr Ejimakor said “The problem is not the separatist agitation, IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu. The problem is the misguided militarist response to it which, instead of containing it, is actually validating the agitation and convulsing Southeast and Nigeria to boot”.
Recall that Kanu, who is still in the DSS detention in Abuja has recently been sided by the United Nations who mandaded the Federal Government and it’s agencies to, unconditionally release Kanu.
But Barr Ejimakor said “It is referendum that made Abubakar Atiku a Nigerian and which may as yet make him President.
“It’s through referendum that Midwest Region came into being in 1964. This is all within Nigeria, not counting the many nations that were created through referendum, such as Eritrea, Kosovo, South Sudan, etc.”
He therefore advised that the IPOB Leader should be unconditionally released and compensated.
Reacting, the family said it is not only agitation is the problem of Nigeria but the present federal administration.
Kanu’s younger brother Prince Emma Kanu said “they have vehemently refused to understand the reasons behind the agitation. Not only Biafra is agitating, but every component of the country is agitating.
“Until they begin to listen, they will not get it right. We want to be free and we don’t want to be Nigerians as a people.
“We have different ways of life and we are deeply divided along religious and ethnic Iines among others. We don’t have anything in common.
Agitation is right. We are not part of this system and we have been rejected.
“We need liberation and the time is now”, he said.
