Workers of Abia State Healthough Management Board, HMB Tuesday vowed to take all measures to ensure that Abia State Government pay them their 12 months salaries owed them.
Towards achieving this, the workers said among other measures, that they would take the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and the state government to court, as well as to a scary shrine in Anambra State.
Speaking during the protest where the workers blocked the ever busy Aba Road by rolling on the road and crying to God to come to their rescue, the chairperson, Medical and Health Workers Union Nigeria, MHWUN HMB branch, Comrade Mary Chidinma Wokoma said three weeks ago when they protested, the state government had through their parent Union pleaded with the workers to start work with the assurance that it will pay them within two weeks.
“After government paid us one month, they assured that they will pay us another six months in two weeks. In trying to respect the government, we called off our protest and opened our office.
“But after three weeks, nothing has happened. We are now protesting to show that Abia State Government has failed again”.
She noted that as political campaign is around the corner, “if care is not taken, they will not pay before they leave office and use our salaries for election campaign”.
“Please, have pity on us and come to our rescue to enable us live”, she pleaded with the state government.
Also speaking, the state chairman, Allied Action Committee, Comrade Echeta Chikezie In line with Comrade Wokoma pleaded with the state government to honour its words.
One of the workers who is suffering from stroke, Mazi Akabuike Iheanyi pleaded with Gov. Ikpeazu to come to their aid to enable him have money to have access to medical treatment.
A staff who spoke on condition of anonymity said that since the state government would not listen to their plea through God, that they have concluded plans to drag the governor and the state government to the dreaded popular shrine in Anambra in addition to the Court.
