Nigerian youths should be encouraged and empowered to return to agriculture for better food productivity and food increase.
The National President of Traditional Prime Ministers in Nigeria and the Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, High Chief Uche James Akwukwegbu stated this in his Amuzukwu Ibeku country home on the occasion of the community’s 2022 new yam celebration, stating advising the federal government to “empower the youths to go back to the land, and mobilize them with interest-free loans so that they can go to the forests inhabited by gunmen and farm there, uncover their hideouts and increase food production in the country.
He advised leaders in position of authority to emulate the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr. M. I. Okpara sustained the region’s economy through commercial agriculture.
He disclosed that In Ibeku land this year, all the yams used in the ceremony was from to their farm lands.
“Our people farmed yam this year and did not buy any from the market”, he said.
He advised Nigerian youths to make themselves available for farming.
