The economic woes of Abia state have been traced to leadership ineptitude and corruption.

The Action Alliance, AA governorship candidate in the 2023 governorship election in the state, Onyekwere Akym Uche disclosed this in Umuahia today during the declaration of his ambition stating that it was the desire to “change the narrative of our dear state from underdevelopment and retrogression to a progressive pace-setter state” and “rescue Abia from political servitude and economic emasculation”.

He lamented, “Those who were privileged to superintend over the affairs of the state did not only abuse the opportunities given to them to positively affect lives, but regrettably embarked on insatiable chase for wealth.

“They criminally converted funds meant for development of the state into their private possessions”.

The state he said has “few individuals who are many times richer than the entire state, while majority of Abians are wallowing in abject poverty”.

He therefore vowed to enthrone government of the people that will change the faith of Abians and will include youths in the affairs of the state.

He assured of making the state number one in the country, but will change also the condition of women, and children.

According to him, the problems of infrastructure, Abia State University accreditations, Doctors plight, “imposition and reward of failure, among others in the state, will be a thing of the past.

Earlier, the state chairman of Action Alliance, AA Hon. Tony Orji said Abians have suffered enough, stating “what we are now doing is how to save and develop the state”.
