The trouble with Nigeria is leadership and faulty recruitment of leaders.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate in Abia State in the forthcoming 2023 general election, Prof. Uche Ikonne identified this problem of Nigeria in Umuahia Thursday.

Speaking during a book launch by O. J. Bob Amanze titled “The Search For Leadership: The Nigerian Perspective”, Ikonne, who spoke through his campaign Secretary General, Hon. Stanley Ojigbo said “If National Assembly members will have a constitution that will enable them see the problems of Nigeria, we will have a leeway”.

Addressing the press later, Ojigbo emphasized, “The trouble with Nigeria is leadership and faulty recruitment of leaders into critical areas of leadership in the country”.

He noted that the constitution governs everything, adding that the country needs a home-grown constitution that will adapt to home conditions and also less costly so that leaders will govern well.

“When we get leadership right, get the cost right, it will be easier to rule Nigeria. The country needs a home-grown constitution”, adding ” If you are a reader, you are a leader”.

Earlier while reviewing the book, an Associate Professor, Uwaoma Uche of Abia Polytechnic Aba described the book as a “politico-morphosis” which “offers the panacea for good governance”.

In his opening speech, the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Magnus Ekwe of the Department of Physics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike said the book reveals how to fix the country, regretting, “there is a marked marginalization of the south east.

“The only solution is to balance power and not for the south east to be a spectator. This will reduce agitations in the country”, he said.

In his speech, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Basic Education, Ukwu Rocks Emma encouraged similar researches on issues that are good.

Fielding questions from newsmen, the author, O. J. Bob Amanze said his book is about ideologies that can fit into any good leader’s agenda, adding “it is a blueprint for emerging leaders in Nigeria”.
