PDP Abia Central hopeful, Col. Akobundu unveils manifesto, development agenda

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for Abia Central Senatorial Election, Col Austin Akobundu Tuesday unveiled his 5-point Campaign Manifesto, with the theme “the People-First Agenda Document”.

Presenting the manifesto, Col. Akobundu said his emergence “is a collective pursuit by the people for quality representation irrespective of age, sectional, political differences and religious sentiments”.

“As the title connotes, the document derives its strength, from the wishes, aspiration and manifest Will of the people of Abia Central Senatorial District in their desire for quality representation at the National Assembly.

“My campaign is centered on citizens’ empowerment, human capital and infrastructure development which shall drive stronger production of goods and services through effective legislation and oversight”, he said.

He highlighted his campaign manifesto to include “Democracy, Freedom, Quality Representation, Justice and Fairness”, as well as “Prosperity and Citizen Empowerment as Dividends of Democracy”.

Others he said include “Bridge Infrastructure Deficit across Abia Central”, “Security for Prosperity” and “Transparency, Accountabllity, Accessibility”.

His manifesto, he said “should serve as a direct statement, vision, aspiration, desire and collective hope of my dear people in Abia Central Senatorial District”.

He expressed his committment “to ensure the wellbeing, prosperity and happiness of the people of Abia Central by hitting the ground running upon election into the Senate”, adding “It is a collective mandate and we must not fail the people”.

He further asaured that his constituency projects will include empowering not tess than 1500 Constituents (mostly youths) yearly in various personal vocations, trades and businesses and the facilitation of the construction of modern, well equipped Vocational and Skill Acquisition Centers in the six Locil Government Areas of Abia Central.

Others he said are to “factlitate rehabilitation and equipping of cottage hospitals and community Health Cente, Care for the aged and vulnerable persons, provision of scholarship and bursaries for not less than 1000 pupils and students at varrous levels of education and yearly rehabilitation and construction of new blocks of classrooms in Schools in various communities in the six Local Government Areas of Abia Central.

Rehabilitation and upgrade of major feeder roads, extensive federal government intervention on gully erasion sites, rapid electrification for communities, rehabilitation of existing and construction of new water projects, extensive support to farmers and agro-based investors and facilitation of the upgrade of markets and economic value chains, especially in the rural communities also featured in his agenda.

The manifesto he explained, “derives its strength, from the wishes, aspiration and manifest Will of the people of Abia Central Senatorial District in their desire for quality representation at the National Assembly. I want to be held accountable if I win”.

Stakeholders at the occasion, including Jerry Uzosike, Chris Ezem (SSG), Pst. Emeka Inyama (Campaign DG), and Obinna Nwachukwu (State PDP vice Chairman) described Akobundu as best qualified for the position.
