It was a harvest of multiple births at hospitals in Umuahia, early this week as not less than 8 expectant mothers were reportedly blessed with more than a child each during delivery.
Top on the list is Miss Oluomachi Linda Nwaojo, a 24 year old final year student of Michael Okpara University Umudike, who gave birth to quintuplets, 3 girls and 2 boys at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Umuahia.
Also blessed are Chinwe Sunday, from Mgbaja Ossah Ibeku who gave birth to triplets, 2 girls and1 boy also at Federal medical Centre Umuahia and Mrs Joy A Onyekwere, who gave birth to triplets at the Abia State Specialist Hospital, Amachara Umuahia.
As a result therefore, Abians Including the wife of the Abia State governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia State, High Chief Ikechi Emenike and NANA/OFUJI Campaign Organization of YPP in Abia have already come to the rescue of the women.
The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, who visited the mothers at their hospital bedsides, thanked God for the safe arrival of the babies, describing it as a testimony of God’s abounding goodness.
She used the opportunity to call on pregnant women to always go through antenatal care when they get pregnant, emphasizing that it is the pre-natal care which the women got at government recognized hospitals that made their deliveries easier and presented cash gift, babies materials, and foodstuff to the mothers.
Similarly, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abia State, High Chief Ikechi Emenike has called for a special care for the mother of quintuplets and her babies.
Visiting the mother of the quintuplets at the FMC Umuahia Wednesday where the five babies were born 24 hours earlier, Emenike, who was represented by the director general of his governorship campaign council, High Chief Uche Ogboso, congratulated the parents of the quintuplets on the safe delivery of the “bountiful gifts from God” and presented gifts of cash, baby formula, beverages and diapers for the care of the young mother and her babies.
According to him, multiple birth is a rare occurrence which demands holistic pre-natal and post-natal care, adding that the mother and her five babies needs to be assisted so that “the precious gift from God will not bring sorrow” to the family of the quintuplets.
Meanwhile, the first shot in assistance to the quintuplets came from the NANA/OFUJI Campaign Organization of YPP in Abia that same Tuesday and who offsetted Oluomachi’s estimated bill of N400,000.00 cash in advance.
This information was released by one Godwin Ashiegbu, who is a Media Aide to the group, stating that Amb. Onyekachi Jackie Atuloma handed over the money totalling N400,000.00 (four hundred thousand naira) to the mother of the quintuplets.
According to Amb. Atuloma, “when I saw the report on the Facebook, I went to the hospital and quickly called my principals, A YPP guber candidate, Nana Chima Nwafor and his deputy, Chima Anyaso who quickly affsetted the bill.
Mr. Nwojo Oru, and Madam Priscilla whose daughter gave birth to the quintuplets, thanked the donors and pleaded for more assistance.
Speaking, the FMC Umuahia image maker, Darlington Madubuko pleaded, “We are begging government, corporate organisations and private individuals to help the family of the quintuplets to take care of the new babies”.
Oluomachi is a 400-level student Forestry Department of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU and currently engaged in marriage that is yet to be concluded.
