The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation for the freedom and emancipation of the poor in Nigeria, particularly in the south east is now starring on the faces of today Nigerians.
A Methodist Church Nigeria cleric and founder, Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha stated this in Umuahia during parley with media men, stating, “I believe that the young man (Kanu) is also interested in finding solution to the whole misunderstanding and he is in a very good spirit, a very high spirit and he has never called for arms, he has never called for war”.
Bishop Onuoha who aid he visited Kanu at the DSS detention facility in Abuja on the 16th of December, said, “I think the justice he called for is still on our faces today. When you see the number of people that are dying because they are looking for food, it is injustice.
“A country where people are looking for rice and they will die for looking for rice. One happened in the north, one happened in the west, one happened in the east. So it is not a tribal problem, it is a national crisis .
“And so, we have injustice. We heard some people have loaded some billions of money in their accounts waiting for another political cycle and it is injustice and I pray a time will not come when the poor will barricade all the Government Houses in the country, and when the poor rises, no person can stand it. This is the time for the country to know that the poor is angry and hungry”.
According to the cleric, “This is not the first or second time of going to the DSS to meet Kanu. It is known that myself and Mbazulike Amaechi met the President, Buhari. Our idea is for political solutionand that was what we brought to the table.
“In fact I even made a joke that “you know that I am a pastor. Can you just hand him over into my hands” and we all laughed. The then president said that there has to be a comprehensive legal process on him (Kanu).
“I have met him (Kanu) inside the DSS office few times and the last one was on the 16th of December, 2024 and we had deep conversation and I have also given feedback to the powers that be. I still believe that the answer to this whole Nnamdi Kanu case has to be solved politically, not legally”.
Bishop Onuoha defended the federal government that nobody is interested in killing lanu, stating, “I also believe that if government had wanted to kill him, they would have killed him. So, I believe that all of us must be asking for political solution”.
“This is because, if all of us know what government is like, if government want to get rid of you, they will get rid of you. And for all those who are men of goodwill, men of conscience, it is a time for us to ask the federal government, to listen to our request that we must find political solution.
“Every day, there are legal reasons why you should or should not and you continue to struggle with all these political manoeuvring, you will never come to an end to it. And so, let’s solve that problem. Release him. The people in the south east have said, release him. The court have also said, release him. So, why are you holding him?
“If you have any reason for holding him, let us know. But we believe that it is important that we come to an end to that phase. Let’s have , as matured people in this country, have political solution to it. And that is our position”.
