Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to take advantage of the Court of Appeal judgment to release the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Federal Government, he said should take advantage of the court’s judgement and pursue political solution rather than an appeal at the Supreme Court.
Recall that the Court of Appeal, Abuja had last week, discharged Kanu from all the charges against him.
Following that judgment, the federal government had on Wednesday, approached the Supreme Court for further deliberation on the matter faulting the decision of the Court of Appeal.
However, the Senator who represents Abia North at the National Assembly, and also the Chief Whip of the Senate, is of the opinion and pleading with President Buhari and Malami to “take advantage of the Court of Appeal judgment, a court of records and a court of competent jurisdiction” (as a political solution) to release Kanu”.
“I Appeal to President Buhari and the Attorney General, Malami to see reasons and see if we can build a political solution through that judgment”, he pleaded.
Sen. Kalu who has visited Mazi Kanu in DSS detention several times and had fruitful discussions with him, pleaded “I want the federal government to try the option of using the Court of Appeal judgment as a political solution to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to enable us see how far the political solution would go”.
