An illegal refinery at Uzoaku in Ukwa West LGA, late Friday, exploded, killing a number of its operators and bunkerers yet to be ascertained.
Though the level of human casualties is yet to be identified, the community has been thrown into mourning as the living mourn their loved ones who died during the incident.
Information available could only identify three who died on the spot and many who were taken to the hospital out of which more than ten have reportedly died.
It was reported that a family of husband, wife and an only son were among those who lost their lives in the raging inferno.
According to a local source, “the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained” and pointed an accusing finger on a motorcycle spark which is the major source of transportation in the area.
All efforts to get the LGA Chairman, Okey Kanu through the phone proved abortive as he neither picks his calls nor respond to text messages sent across to him.
Similarly, no official statement has emanated from the state government yet as all efforts to reach the state Commissioner for Information, Eze Chikamnayo was not possible.
