The founder, Gregory University, Uturu and Peopled Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant in Abia state, Prof. Greg Ibe has dumped the party for All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
Addressing the press in his Uturu country home in Isuikwuato LGA, Prof. Ibe, an astute stakeholder in Abia PDP said the move was necessitated by the inability of the party to honour the zoning arrangement in the state.
He noted that shortly after he confirmed his intension to contest the 2023 governorship election, “signals began to emerge of sinister moves to deny Abia North the opportunity of a fair contest through the ingenious strategy of anointing a preferred aspirant from Abia central. It appears there is a predetermined situation by some people. I hate manipulation in my life. There could be a lot happening under current. I criticize government justly”.
According to him, “It was a plan that received instant condemnation and total rejection by well-meaning Abians from all zones, south, North, central and totality of all well-meaning Nigerians. Unfortunately, their passionate calls for reversal of the obnoxious zoning policy were unheeded as we (Abia North) were insulted with the assertion that ‘Abia North e nweghi madu’ (Abia North does not have anybody)”.
He stated, “Face with this challenge, I decided to embark on another round of consultation in the state to feel the pulse of our people. I have also in response to the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of Abia, taken the membership of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA”.
He said that with APGA, “I am going to see how to continue with our Igbo agenda”, stating that as the state governor, he will decentralize governance to all the LGAs, pursue aggressive agrarian policy, establish industrial clusters and attract and establish World Trade Centre Annex in Aba through his “The New Abia” roadmap.
He assured that he will continue to do his humanitarian works in the state and will integrate his supporters and all Abians through voting for APGA for the development of the state and creation of wealth to make the Abia a “miracle state”.
