Greg Ibe offers 100 students scholarship worth over N.8bill

The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA governorship candidate in the 2023 election in Abia State and founder, Gregory University, Uturu Prof. Greg Ibe Tuesday awarded scholarship worth over N800 million to 100 students of the university.

In his welcome address, Prof. Ibe, represented by the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe said the scholarship under the auspices of Gregory lyke Ibe Foundation Scholarship will be awarded to over 100 beneficiaries to assist in their education.

“Each of these scholarships is worth not less than N8 millon. Meaning that a total of about N800 million is budgeted for these candidates. The scholarships cuts across all political divides”, he said.

The foundation has from inception, and even before the establishment of the University, been actively involved in granting scholarship to deserving students of !gbo land and beyond and numbering over 500 candidates in total.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Greg’s scholarship scheme cuts across various disciplines such as Engineering, Medicine, Environmental Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Humanity, Pharmacy, Education and Law and is not limited to undergraduates only.

Prof. Uwakwe further stated that the scholarship scheme “has contributed and still contributing to human capacity development and the generation of relevant manpower and expertise in critical areas for the development of Abia State and Nigeria at large and therefore not surprising that education is an area of Prof. Ibe’s gubernatorial manifesto.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of scholarship as a “great weapon of change for self-development and emancipation as well as societal development” and used the opportunity to call on all Abians to vote in Prof. Gregory Ibe, as the next Governor of Abia Staten as “his philanthropy will surely reach out to all and sundry”.

In his speech, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA state chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere described the event as unprecedented in the his of the state, describing Prof. Ibe as “a rare gem, star and a galaxy God is using to give impetus to APGA in the state.

Represented by the state Secretary of the party, Amb. Sunday Onukwubiri, Ehiemere said “Greg Ibe is laying a legacy where one or two of the beneficiaries will recall the event in his or her life”, and expressed his belief that the beneficiaries would turn out to be the best in their various endeavours.

Also speaking, the Director General, Prof. Greg Ibe Campaign Organization, Sir Longman Nwachukwu said Prof. Ibe places premium on education “which has seen so many indigent Abians and non-Abians alike across the 36 states of the federation acquire university degrees” from Greg University, Uturu.

He described the scholarship as an “uncommon gestures and rare privilege” and advised them to justify that by excelling in their chosen carreers.

Addressing the occasion, an earlier beneficiary of the scholarship and a student of the university, Mr. Prosper Ahuruanya appreciated Prof. Ibe for his various scholarships, stating that Prod. Ibe “has given value to human society”.

Prosper who is from Ugwunnagbo LGA described Prof. Ibe as ” a man with heart of gold in ensuring that those who are supposed to go to school do so” and urged Abians to give him the chance to govern the state as the solution to Abia problems”.

“Abians, forget about sentiments and give Prof. the chance to govern the state”, Prosper pleaded.
