A former Abia Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chieftain, Senator Emma Nwaka has eventually crossed over to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Sen. Nwaka, who was a former Abia State chairman of PDP had on June 12, 2024 resigned from PDP and had been without party affiliation for six months,
.
The APC has confirmed his entrance into the party. According to the State Secretary of the party, Chidi Avoaja, the loss to the PDP is a gain for the APC, stating, “if there is no loss, there is no gain, but the worst is to be in a losing party. Being in the ruling party is the best for him”.

Sen. Nwaka’s confirmed defection has added to the number of top chieftains of PDP in Abia State that have continued to swell the ranks of APC, which has been making gains from the problems within Abia PDP.

Nwaka had quietly resigned from the PDP on June 12, 2024 for personal reasons, but made it public on August 30, 2024. Though the former Abia North Senator is yet to make his defection public, it appears that he chose to join APC quietly just like his resignation from PDP. He has already been formally admitted into the APC family and issued a membership card of the party.

Nwaka, who was a PDP governorship aspirant in the 2023 general election entry into the APC, sparked speculation about his membership of APC but was confirmed when a photograph surfaced showing him receiving APC membership card in his Oguduasa Ward 5, Isuikwuato Local Government.

All efforts to get Sen. Nwaka for his reaction, have not been successful, however, a political aide confirmed to newsmen that the photograph was real, adding that Nwaka would eventually will open up when the time comes.

Sen. Nwaka’s exit adds to others, including the immediate past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, who have also found his way into the APC, the ruling party in the country.
