Abia first lady, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has assured that she would settle all medical expenses incurred by the baby of the year, little miss Destiny Gideon.
Destiny was born at 12.11am on the first day of the year and weighed 3.4 kg at birth.
Expressing her excitement when she visited the baby at the Federal Medical Center, FMC Umuahia, Mrs. Ikpeazu thanked God for allowing all into year 2023 “to see the new year and the new baby”.
She assured ” We will take care of the baby and make sure that the baby receives all the necessary vaccination she requires. We will also pay her medical bills”.
She advised the mother, Mrs. Loveth Chinyere Gideon Sheapera to ensure she brings up the baby in a godly manner.
Speaking with newsmen later, the father of the baby, Mr. Gideon Sheapera and the mother, Mrs. Loveth Chinyere Gideon Sheapera expressed their happiness over the Abia first lady visit, assuring that they will do their best to train the baby.
The mother is from Isiala Ngwa and married to Gideon Sheapera from Benue.
Earlier, the hospital’s Head of Nursing Service, Mrs. Josephine N. Ekpemiro said after the baby of the year, two others were born at 5.24 am and 8.00 am and thanked Mrs. Ikpeazu over the gesture she had maintained every year.
She recalled that the Abia first lady has also been paying the bills of indigent patients, and urged her to continue with the gesture.
Mrs. Ikpeazu later handed over cash, wrappers and baby items to Mrs. Gideon and other nursing mothers in the new born babies ward and later visited those at the expectant ward.
