An Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA couple, Uzochukwu and Loretta have been arrested over abuse and torture of 12-year old house help, Glory with hot water laced with pepper.
The couple, Uzochukwu and Loretta who hail from Umuahia South LGA had allegedly abused their house help, a 12-year old Glory, and a Primary 3 pupil on the grounds that she did not inform them that their 2-year old child ‘s food had finished.
The couple who live in Umuahia metropolis reportedly applied pepper in the eyes, nose and private parts of the 12 year old child living with them as house-help.
Speaking in Umuahia after the couple was arrested, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Abia State Mrs. Rose Urenta, vowed that State government will continue to fight gender based violence, child trafficking and abuse until it is reduced to the barest.
Mrs Urenta who expressed dismay over the development, said with the state’s zero tolerance policy championed by the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, such cases will no longer be swept under the carpet.
She said government and other stakeholders would ensure the victim gets Justice.
Recounting her experience the young, Glory who was rescued by a concerned neighbour, said that she was not only beaten, but her guardians also poured water mixed with pepper on her body and forced her to rub it on her body including her private part for failing to tell them that the baby food of the toddler on the house had finished.
The couple was arrested after a neighbour raised alarm and drew attention of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Abia State.
