The Abia Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise for Niger Delta, LIFE-ND Thursday in Umuahia trained 90 Abians in home garden that is entrepreneurally based.
Addressing the incubatees (trainees) and incubators (trainers), the state Project Coordinator, Dr. Rowland Uchenna Onyeizu said the training is an assistance from the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD.
“It is a federal government loan from IFAD on behalf of state governments within the Niger Delta”, he said.
He disclosed that there are six states benefitting from the project, including Abia that is doing well by ensuring the loan gets to the beneficiaries.
In the state, Dr. Onyeizu said the project is currently working in 10 selected Local Goverment Areas and presently targeting 100 communities and about 4250 beneficiaries but has over 2000 beneficiaries as at date, while getting 90 more trainees.
The federal government, he said saw the need to have home entrepreneurs in form of special home garden like in vegetable for all-the-year farming.
“We are training you on how to make business out of agriculture. We will assist you in developing business plans, running the business and will equip you with improves products.
“You will farm, make profit and re-invest your profit”, Dr. Onyeizu told the trainees and urged them to take no the training and the project serious as “those who are not serious will be taken out of the process”.
He disclosed that the state has made name with the project, adding that the funders, IFAD last month, rated the state the best within the project.
The trainees were trained on business management, among others.
