Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti is of the opinion that the clergy in the state is significant and as a result therefore, has called for collaboration with the clergymen in the state to advance his government’s developmental agenda in the state and his mandate of a new Abia.

According to Otti, while speaking in Umuahia, during an enlarged meeting with some Pentecostal ministers in the state, as spiritual leaders, ministers of the gospel possess enormous influence over the moral and social direction of the society, claiming that God gave him a mandate of creating prosperity and lifting the people out of poverty, even assured that he is not distracted by the antics of the opposition in the state.

Otti who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba said, “I want to assure you that God sent us here. And he gave us a mandate. And we remain focused. We are not even distracted by the opposition. When we were to come, we told Abians, ‘weep no more because help is on the way’. I believe that from what you can see today, you know that help has come”.

“My administration is creating prosperity for Abians through reforms, infrastructural renewal and economic expansion. Abia, being God’s Own State, requires collective responsibility from both government and the church to achieve the desired transformation”, the governor said, while higlighting his modest achievements within the last 2 years and few months and urged the clergy in the state to let the people know that, “this is what is happening and this is what government is doing.

Otti also pleaded with the ministers to sensitize their faithful on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the state, as well as to continue interceding for the present administration in order to strengthen democratic processes and delivering democracy dividends to the citizens.

The clerics who spoke, including Pastor Amara Uwaeziozi of the Masters Vessel, Rev. Dr Uche Ume of Power World Ministries, Pastor Innocent Nkemjika of Deeper Christian Life Bible Church, Pastor Anny Ikebudu of House on the Rock among others,  commended  Gov. Otti for his numerous transformative projects recorded across various sectors of the state’s economy, which they said are clear testament to the governor’s commitment towards repositioning the Abia state.

Though they encouraged Abians to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the state, they assured the government of their full support and prayed God to continue to guide, protect and give the Governor the wisdom to continue to pilot the affairs of the State, they bluntly pointed out some areas they would want the government to improve on, including the area of monitoring the people sent to enforce government policies as well as embarking on more sensitaisations about government’s programmes and activities.
