In an unanimous declaration they made at the end of their July, 2025 general congress under the aegis of National Senior Citizen Centre Abia State Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Ageing, NSCCABSSCFOA, they affirmed, “We, the senior citizens of Abia State, gathered together, hereby express our unwavering support for Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s leadership.

“We commend his vision, dedication, and commitment to the development and progress of our great state. We acknowledge the efforts he has made to improve the lives of Abians, promote economic growth, and provide essential services. We believe in his ability to lead our state towards a brighter future.

“We, therefore, declare our solidarity with Governor Dr. Alex Otti and pledge to continue supporting his administration’s initiatives. We call on all Abians to join us in this endeavor, working together to build a prosperous and thriving Abia State”.

Earlier, the Co-chair/Facilitator of NSCCABSSCFOA, Mazi Otti Nwaka stated the need to show solidarity with the governor who he said, “has done much for the state, including the elder citizens in the state under NSCCABSSCFOA.

“We must show support and reassure him of our support. It is time to stay with him so that he will continue to do what he is doing for us. We are going to work with him as he has given us the reason to support him, our party affiliation not minding”.

While advising members to ensure they maintain healthy lifestyle, and be attentive to what is happening in the government, he thanked the state governor for signing their elder citizens bill into law and his other numerous assistance to the them, as well as the governor’s wife and the Commissioners for carrying the elders along in the state, stating, “Abia State is a good state. They have signed our bill into law and we are waiting for them to set up the structure to enable us know where we are heading to”.

According to him, Abia is one of the three states in the federation that have signed the bill into law.

In their various speeches, members of the NSCCABSSCFOA, including Mrs. Anna Oleka, Mrs. Nwaka Amuwa, Lady Ozioma Onwuka Okereke, Mr. Ezeagwu Nnamdi, Chief Sir Grant Chinedu Nwoko and Ichie Gabriel Idika commended Gov. Otti for signing their bill into law, and his exploits in different sectors of Abia economy, stating, “it is only the blind that will say he will not vote for Gov. Otti for a second tenure”.

According to them, “Look at us, who are pensioners, we look like those about to be married. If we continue to itemize what Gov. Otti has done for Abians, particularly elder citizens, it will be countless.

“This is payback time and no one in Abia can say he or she has not benefitted from Alex Otti. Some of us retired over 16 years ago and immediately Otti came in, he paid us millions of naira each which we used to pay school fees and other personal pressing needs.

“Otti has treated well every home. If we reciprocate now, he will do more. Our testimonies are not something surprising. What we are talking is how to sustain our resolve”, and described the state as the most peaceful in the country.

Ichie Gabriel Idika urged members in particular and Abians in general to shun selling their PVCs as it will be used to rig elections, come 2027, stating. “people want to come into us to destabilize us”.
