A Prominent businessman and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain in Abia, Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe and his over 5000 party faithful, Tuesday dumped the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Igwe, an Abia oil tycoon, had after a marathon meeting with the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, decided to jettison the party that was once in power at the federal and state levels for the APC that is current handling power at the federal level and which also had lost power abysmally in Abia.
A source close to the former Abia State Governor confirmed the defection of Chief Igwe stating that he defected with over 5,000 of his PDP supporters.
“Chief Chris Igwe has joined the APC after meeting with his business ally and friend, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. It is a big plus for the APC in Umunneochi Local Government Area and Abia State in general,” the source said.
Prince Chris Odinaka Igwe is the ManagingDirector/Chief Executive Officer of Mainland Oil and Gas Company Limited and the Chairman of Chrisnak Groups Limited. He is also a recipient of the officer of Order of the Federal Republic National Award.
His younger brother, Hon. Okey Igwe was immediate past member that represented Umunneochi State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly and later, the deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia State.
PDP, which has been in power in Abia State for over 16 years has its reign brought to an end by the Labour Party, under the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti when it was pushed to a distant second position in the last general election last year.
